Israeli officials look to hold Africa-Israel Summit in Jerusalem

Talks are reportedly underway in an effort to reschedule the cancelled Africa-Israel Summit, with Israeli officials proposing it be held in Jerusalem within the next six months, according to the Jerusalem Post. Diplomatic officials and businessmen are currently looking at the feasibility of holding the conference, which was to be held next week prior to its cancellation, next year in order to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Israel’s independence, and to mark 60 years since the establishment of Israel’s overseas development agency, Mashav. Algeria ‘fails’ on human rights and freedom of expression, says EU

The European Council this week revealed findings from the EU annual report on human rights and democracy in which it noted several “failures” in Algeria on human rights issues and freedom of expression. “The exercise of some of the [fundamental] rights (including freedom of assembly and freedom of expression) continued — sometimes — to be hampered in practice,” said the report. Iraq army chief of staff arrives in Saudi Arabia

Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Army, Lieutenant-General Othman Al-Ghanmi, arrived in Saudi Arabia yesterday as part of a senior military delegation, the New Khaleej news website reported. Al-Ghanmi’s visit comes on the back of an invitation issued to him by his Saudi counterpart Major General Abdul Rahman Bin Saleh during his visit to Baghdad in July. The military leaders will discuss cooperation in the field of fighting terrorism, opening crossings and challenges faced while ensuring the safety and security of Saudi Arabia and Iraq. UNICEF: No new school year in Yemen
